Changelog
What changed in each version of Humble Viewer, newest first. Use the same version of the app on every computer, and update the server with them.
Not released yet
- Installers can be deleted. In the dashboard under Add computers, an installer is revoked first; once it is revoked, expired or used up, Delete removes it from the list. Computers it added stay.
- "Default" group. Computers in no group are listed under Default (it was "Ungrouped"), first, in the dashboard and in the app's Computers page.
- Two-factor setup with a QR code. Account → Set up 2FA opens a dialog with a QR code to scan, the key to type in instead, and the code to confirm. Authenticator apps list it as Humble Viewer.
- The app knows which computer it runs on. In Computers, this computer is marked "(this computer)", cannot be connected to from itself, and Add this computer is no longer offered once it is in the account. The account and server name have a line of their own and no longer run into the buttons.
0.14.0 4 October 2026
- humbleviewer.com. The website, this documentation and the downloads are at www.humbleviewer.com; the hosted relay and its dashboard at relay.humbleviewer.com, which is now the public relay built into the apps.
- Sign in with Google or GitHub. New accounts on the hosted relay are made with a Google or GitHub account. Existing users keep their password and can add Google or GitHub under Account → Sign-in methods.
- Sign in with a browser in the app's Computers page: sign in on the server's page (with Google, GitHub or a password) and the app is signed in too.
- Dashboard. A computer's terminal service shares its desktop's line, with a
>_button to open it; links to the website and the documentation. - Getting help quickly. The website's front page has a one-click download of Humble Viewer Support.
- Server: PostgreSQL as well as SQLite (
--database), andhumble-server copy-databaseto move a server's data from one to the other. See Use PostgreSQL and Sign in with Google or GitHub.
0.13.0 4 October 2026
- File transfer window, like WinSCP: your files on the left, the remote computer's on the right, copy files and folders either way, choose to replace or skip what is already there, and a log of what was sent and how fast. See Transfer files.
0.12.0 4 October 2026
- One line per computer in the app's Computers page: a computer's terminal service is a
>_button on its desktop's line. - No chat in terminal sessions: nobody is at the other end to read it.
0.11.0 4 October 2026
- Linux terminal and console service: reach a Linux computer without a desktop, or with nobody signed in, as a shell or its text console. See Linux terminal and console.
- A session keeps working when the remote computer changes its screen resolution.
0.10.0 4 October 2026
- GNOME: the screen is shared without asking the person at the computer to press Share for every session, so unattended access works there.
0.9.0 4 October 2026
- Package for Fedora (
.rpm). - Direct connections stay on after a settings change, such as signing in.
- Without a system tray, the app no longer fills its log with retries.
0.8.0 3 October 2026
- A session opens on the monitor you showed last time with that computer.
0.7.0 to 0.7.3 3 October 2026
- Ctrl+Shift+Esc opens Task Manager on a Windows computer (0.7.3).
- From Linux and Mac: Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V (0.7.2), and Ctrl, Escape and the Super (Windows) key (0.7.1) reach the remote computer.
- First work on showing Windows administrator prompts and the lock screen through the background service (0.7.0); not reliable yet, see Troubleshooting.
0.6.0 3 October 2026
- A key held for a second is held on the remote computer too, so it repeats there (holding Backspace deletes more than one character), while short presses stay single presses.
0.5.0 3 October 2026
- Sessions stay smooth when either computer is busy: Humble Viewer asks the system for priority for its screen, video and sound work.
0.4.0 to 0.4.4 3 October 2026
- Trust a server's self-signed certificate once, like an SSH host key, instead of failing to connect (0.4.0).
- Windows upgrades no longer ask for a restart, and no longer fail with error 2613 (0.4.1, 0.4.2).
- The full-screen toolbar stays while one of its menus is open (0.4.3); the chat panel no longer changes width by itself (0.4.4).
0.3.0 and 0.3.1 3 October 2026
- The app configures the background service: with the service installed, Settings show and change its settings (name, password, direct connections, server) (0.3.0).
- Upgrading on Windows no longer asks for a restart (0.3.1).
